A Eulogy

In Memoriam: Christian Hartono (1979 - 2008)

Saturday morning, I was shocked (and devastated) to hear the news of my best friend died in an accident. I have known Chris since 2004. I called him by his nickname: “Sinjo” (means “young master” in Dutch), because he told me people back home in Blitar called him by that. I retain many good memories with Sinjo. He was a Yahoo! Pool Champion at the office :) He was a talented musician. He was a magnificent entertainer at office birthdays and events. The last but not least, he was a great one-liner.

We loved his antics and CRAZINESS at our old office where we used to work. I, personally, will cherish them for the rest of my life.

Sinjo is not the kind of man who takes everything easily. He always questions everything. To me, he was always a bit of a rebel, but that’s what made him interesting. We had lunch almost everyday for two years before we finally resigned from the office (Sinjo was the one who resigned first and somewhat opened our eyes to follow his resignation).

Sinjo visited me a few times after that. Although he lived hundreds of miles away from Jakarta, he found times to ask me to meet up every time he’s in the city. Last time I met him was in late November 2007, during a screening of my movie. He showed great enthusiasm for film as well as motorcycle and music.

Sinjo was only 28 years of age.

Farewell Njo. We'll miss you. You’ll always in our heart.

PS: For you who knew Chris, please feel free to comment. I'm sure you'll have a lot to say too.
